What will I study?

The student is able to:

  • Define the aetiology and epidemiology of various forms of eating disorders (Anorexia Nervosa, Binge Eating Disorder and Bulimia).
  • Identify predisposing factors (biological, socio-cultural, psychological and familial).
  • Review and identify the purposes, nursing implications and Health Care education for the person.
  • Facilitate the recovery process with the client, family, carers and significant others – Normalisation of eating patterns as per the Consultant Psychiatrist’s instruction.
  • Build on their general nursing experience using the principles of risk assessment, counselling and behaviour modification (positive versus negative reinforcement – Skinner’s Opera-conditioning).

Digital Literacy

Basic computer skills include word processing, using spreadsheets creating presentations; finding information and communicating using computers; and being aware of social and ethical implications of Internet use. Having own computer (desktop or laptop) to facilitate the training and assessment.
